Interpretation
"A laboratory for an inquisitive man to work his experimentation" My goal was to concentrate on the mans deep thought. It seemed like he needed a space to work his experimentation and place to release his deep thoughts. I thought a laboratory would be the perfect place for this. A place with good lighting and big windows. Also there is a room at the top where he can make his hypotheses' and concentrate on his findings
Painting and Information
The Astronomer was painted by Jan Vermeer and depicts man in deep thought. The "Astronomer" has no telescope, he is shown touching a celestial globe as a slightly idealized air permeates the pictures, which were probably commissioned work and thus balanced uneasily between the needs of client and painter. The painting that hangs on the wall behind the astronomer has for its subject the Finding of Moses, and perhaps acknowledges the same need for divine inspiration.
